This is a deliberately easy start after your flight. Once you have checked in, you can rest, enjoy a meal or speak with us about suitable options if you arrive early and want to use part of the day. We can suggest a light Cairo activity based on your arrival time, but there is no need to rush into sightseeing. Keep your passport and essential items with you during the transfer, and allow time for airport procedures and Cairo traffic before making evening plans.
Your first full sightseeing day begins at the Giza Pyramids, where your guide explains how the royal tombs were planned and built on the desert plateau. You will see the pyramids from the main viewpoints and have time to walk around the complex, take photographs and hear the history behind the Great Sphinx. The ground is uneven in places, so comfortable shoes and water are useful.
After a break for lunch, continue to the Cairo Museum. Its galleries place Egypt’s long history in context, with statues, funerary objects, jewellery and other pieces from different periods. Alexandria sightseeing usually includes the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, Pompey’s Pillar and the area around the Citadel of Qaitbay. You will also see the modern Library of Alexandria from outside or visit according to the day’s schedule. A local lunch gives you a chance to try seafood or other Egyptian dishes before the return drive. Travel west from Cairo towards Bahariya Oasis, an early start that takes you away from the city and into the Western Desert.
