Description

This 8-day Egypt itinerary from Cairo with a Nile cruise and Hurghada brings together Egypt’s major ancient sights, a slower journey along the Nile and time beside the Red Sea. You start in Cairo at the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum, then continue to Luxor for a four-night cruise to Aswan. The trip finishes in Hurghada, with time to explore the Red Sea and its underwater marine life.

In Cairo, our guide takes you across the Giza plateau to the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx. There is time to examine the pyramid complexes, hear how they were built and look across the desert plateau as the views change. At the Egyptian Museum, you see pharaonic statues, coffins, jewellery and objects from several periods of Egyptian history. Your guide explains the collection as you go, so you are not left to find your way through it alone.

After Cairo, we arrange your transfer to Luxor, where the Nile cruise starts. On the west bank, the Valley of the Kings holds painted royal tombs cut into the limestone hills, and Hatshepsut Temple rises in terraces below the cliffs. The Colossi of Memnon are a brief stop nearby. Across the river, Luxor Temple is particularly atmospheric later in the day, with its columns, statues and long avenue historically linking it with Karnak Temple.

The cruise gives you a comfortable base as the scenery changes outside the window. Between Luxor and Aswan, you visit Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex on the itinerary, then continue past riverside farmland and small settlements. Meals are served on board, with time to rest between guided visits. The arrangement suits travellers who prefer a set route without changing hotels each night, though there are still early starts and walks over uneven stone surfaces.

In Aswan, the itinerary includes the High Dam and Philae Temple, sometimes written as Phiala Temple. Philae is on an island reached by boat, so the visit includes a short ride on the water, followed by courtyards, reliefs and columns dedicated to Isis. The Nubian village visit gives you a more recent view of life beside the Nile, with time to see local homes, colours and community traditions. Abu Simbel temples are also included among the southern highlights, with their huge rock-cut façades and deep interior chambers.

The Red Sea section shows you a different side of Egypt after the monuments and river travel. In Hurghada, you can relax by the coast and, subject to local conditions and the selected activity, see coral reefs and the Red Sea’s underwater marine life. It suits travellers who want open space after several guided sightseeing days. Swimming and boat activities depend on sea conditions, so we keep the arrangements practical rather than promising a fixed experience.

We coordinate the main transfers, accommodation arrangements, sightseeing transport and guided visits, so you do not have to manage each connection yourself. A licensed Egyptologist guide explains the sites, while the cruise provides accommodation and meals during the sailing portion. The tour suits first-time visitors, couples and families with older children. Travellers with limited mobility should tell us before booking, since temple approaches, boat landings and tomb entrances may include steps, slopes or uneven ground.

Pack light, breathable clothing for daytime visits, a layer for the cruise, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and modest clothing for temples and local communities. Keep your passport, medication and valuables with you during transfers. The exact order of visits may change because of sailing schedules, local access arrangements or transport conditions, but our team confirms the practical details before each stage of the trip.

Your Itinerary

Arrive in Cairo and meet our representative for the transfer to your hotel. The drive gives you a first look at the city’s broad streets, busy neighbourhoods and Nile-side districts before you settle in. Your remaining time is free for rest after the journey.

Our team checks the arrangements for the following days and explains the sightseeing order, transport and meeting points. If you arrive early, you can take an easy walk near your hotel or relax rather than trying to fit in a major visit on arrival day.

This is the first of your three Cairo nights. Keep your passport and essential medicines with you, and allow time to adjust to the pace of the city before the full sightseeing programme begins.

After breakfast, travel to the Giza Plateau for the Pyramids of Giza. Your guide explains how the pyramid complex was planned and how the monuments were connected with royal burial practices. You have time to walk around the designated viewpoints and take photographs before continuing to the nearby Sphinx.

The Sphinx is seen from the temple area in front of it, where you can study the carved human head and lion’s body at close range. Conditions underfoot can be uneven, and the open plateau has limited shade, so comfortable shoes, water and sun protection are useful.

Continue into central Cairo for the Egyptian Museum, where displays cover thousands of years of Egyptian history. The visit adds context to the monuments you have already seen, with statues, funerary objects and royal collections arranged through the galleries. Return to your hotel for your second Cairo night.

Use your final full day in Cairo at a relaxed pace. You can rest at the hotel, spend time exploring nearby streets with your guide, or request additional sightseeing if it fits the day’s arrangements. Keeping this day flexible gives you a buffer before the move south to Luxor.

Our team confirms the next transfer and the embarkation details for the Nile cruise. Pack a smaller day bag for sightseeing and keep valuables, travel documents and medication accessible during the journey. Larger luggage can remain organised for the change between hotel and cruise cabin.

In the evening, enjoy your third Cairo night. The following day begins the move to Luxor, so an early night is sensible if your transport is scheduled in the morning. Meals, transfers and sightseeing are arranged according to the final booking plan.

Leave Cairo for Luxor by the arranged domestic flight or long-distance transfer, depending on your booking. On arrival, our representative takes you to the Nile cruise boat for check-in and lunch or the next available meal service. Cabin access and sailing procedures are explained before the afternoon visits.

Begin at Karnak temple, a large complex built and expanded by successive pharaohs. Walk through the avenue and columned halls with your guide, who points out the changes in scale, decoration and religious purpose across the site. The open courtyards and vast columns make this a substantial first visit, so allow time for walking.

Continue to Luxor temple, where evening light often gives the stone a different character from Karnak. After the visit, return to the boat for dinner and your first night on the Nile. The vessel remains in Luxor or begins its sailing schedule according to river conditions and the cruise programme.

Cross to Luxor’s West Bank after breakfast for the Valley of the Kings. Your guide explains how the pharaohs moved their burials into concealed desert valleys and how the tombs were decorated with scenes connected to the afterlife. The included tombs can vary, and entry to some additional tombs may require a separate ticket.

Continue to Hatshepsut temple, cut into the cliffs with broad terraces linked by ramps. The setting makes the change from the valley floor to the high desert especially clear. Wear sturdy footwear because the route includes steps, paved paths and exposed areas.

At the Colossi of Memnon, stop for photographs and a short explanation of the two seated royal figures before returning to the boat. The cruise sails south after the West Bank programme, giving you time to rest on deck and watch the agricultural villages and cultivated riverbanks pass by.

Spend the morning on board as the cruise continues south. The view changes gradually: green fields follow the Nile, while dry hills and desert lie beyond the cultivated strip. Your guide gives brief explanations of the villages, irrigation and ancient settlements visible from the river without turning the sailing time into another rushed sightseeing session.

The boat usually makes a stop at one of the scheduled temples between Luxor and Aswan, subject to the sailing plan. Walk from the mooring with your guide, listen to the site’s history and return to the boat before it continues downstream. The exact order can change with navigation and docking arrangements.

There is time during the afternoon to sit on the shaded deck, use the onboard facilities or read. Keep a light layer nearby for the evening and follow the crew’s instructions when the boat is moored or passing through locks.

Arrive in Aswan and travel to the island where Phiala temple is located. A short boat ride across the reservoir leads to the monument, whose reliefs and columns reflect several periods of Egyptian history. Your guide explains how the temple was relocated during the construction of the High Dam project.

Continue by boat toward a Nubian village, where you can meet local residents, see brightly painted homes and learn about Nubian traditions along the river. The visit is a chance to experience a living community rather than another archaeological site. Ask before photographing people or entering private areas.

Return to the cruise boat for your final night on board. The pace is generally slower than the earlier Luxor sightseeing days, but there are still steps, boat landings and uneven surfaces. Organise your luggage in the evening so disembarkation and the next transfer are straightforward.

Disembark in Aswan after breakfast and begin the early transfer to the Abu Simbel temples. The journey takes several hours by road, so carry water, sun protection and anything needed during the drive. At the site, your guide explains the rock-cut temples of Ramesses II and the smaller temple beside it, including the relocation work carried out before Lake Nasser covered the original location.

Return to Aswan after the visit for the next arranged transfer. Travellers ending the package in Cairo continue by domestic flight or another confirmed connection. Travellers continuing to Hurghada take the road transfer toward the Red Sea; the journey is long, so breaks are planned around the transport schedule.

In Hurghada, you can Discover the red sea at your own pace after arrival. Any time set aside for the underworld life marine of the red sea, including a boat or snorkelling activity, depends on the separate booking and sea conditions. The tour concludes after your final drop-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

This 8-day Egypt itinerary includes 3 nights in Cairo, 4 nights on a Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan, sightseeing with a guide, and transfers between the scheduled destinations. In Cairo, you visit the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum.

The cruise itinerary covers Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, the Valley of the Kings, the Colossi of Memnon, Hatshepsut Temple, Philae Temple, the High Dam, the Nubian village and the Abu Simbel temples. The Hurghada section gives you time to discover the Red Sea; activities involving its underwater marine life depend on the arrangements selected for your booking.

The 8-day Egypt tour has a full sightseeing pace, with 3 nights in Cairo followed by 4 nights on a Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan and time in Hurghada. Cairo sightseeing comes first, then the cruise visits the main temples and tombs in the order set by the sailing schedule.

Some visits start early to avoid the strongest daytime heat, especially the Valley of the Kings and Abu Simbel. We recommend comfortable walking shoes and allowing time for road transfers, guided visits and rest between excursions.

Our team arranges the scheduled pickups and transfers between Cairo, the Nile cruise, Hurghada and the airport or other confirmed drop-off point shown in your booking. Your driver or guide meets you at the agreed pickup location, then explains the next transfer before you leave.

Exact pickup times depend on your arrival details, sightseeing order and cruise schedule, so we confirm them after receiving your flight and accommodation information. Please provide accurate arrival and departure details when you book.

This Cairo and Nile cruise itinerary can suit families and reasonably active travellers, but it includes uneven ground, steps, temple paths and walking in warm conditions. Visits to the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, the Egyptian Museum and the Valley of the Kings require a practical level of mobility.

Travellers with limited mobility should tell us before booking so we can review the sightseeing plan, vehicle access and cruise arrangements. The cruise reduces the need to change hotels, although some historic sites cannot provide step-free access throughout.

Bring light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a hat, sunglasses, personal medication and a reusable water bottle for this Cairo, Nile cruise and Red Sea tour. Shoulders and knees should be covered when visiting temples, mosques and other religious or culturally sensitive places.

A light layer is useful on early starts, in air-conditioned vehicles and on the cruise deck. Pack swimwear if your confirmed Hurghada arrangements include time by the sea, and keep passports, travel documents and valuables secure during transfers.

Cancellation and amendment terms for the 8-day Egypt tour depend on the booking conditions shown at checkout and on services already reserved, such as cruise cabins, accommodation and transfers. Review those terms before payment and contact our team as soon as your plans change.

We can explain the applicable policy for your reservation, but we cannot guarantee a refund or date change without checking the suppliers and arrangements attached to the booking.
