5) Day 5: Nile Cruise Embarkation & Luxor East Bank
After being picked up from your station in Luxor, you will embark on your Nile Cruise and enjoy a delicious lunch on board. Start your exploration of Luxor's East Bank with a visit to the magnificent Karnak Temple. More than just a temple, Karnak is a vast complex of sanctuaries, kiosks, pylons, and obelisks, all dedicated to the Theban gods and the glory of Egypt’s pharaohs. It was the most important site for worshiping the Theban Triad (Amun, Mut, and Khonso).
Next, visit the stunning Luxor Temple, mostly built by Pharaoh Amenhotep III of the New Kingdom and later completed by Tutankhamun and the great Ramses II. Ramses II also constructed the first pylon of the temple and decorated it with scenes from his famous Battle of Kadesh.
Enjoy dinner on board your Nile Cruise and spend the night in Luxor.
6) Day 6: Edfu, Kom Ombo, and Aswan
After breakfast on board, you will visit the Temple of Edfu, one of the best-preserved ancient temples in Egypt, dedicated to the god Horus. The temple stands as a magnificent example of Ptolemaic architecture. Continue your journey sailing to Kom Ombo, where you will visit the unique Temple of Kom Ombo, dedicated to two gods, Sobek and Horus. This double temple is famous for its symmetrical design and stunning reliefs. After exploring Kom Ombo, you will sail towards Aswan, where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful landscapes along the Nile. The day will end with dinner on board and an overnight stay in Aswan.
7) Day 7: Edfu and Kom Ombo
Begin your day with a breakfast on board your Nile cruise at 07:00, then head out to visit the Temple of Edfu. This well-preserved temple is located in Upper Egypt and is dedicated to the hawk-god Horus. The Ptolemaic temple was built on the site of an earlier structure dating back to the reign of Ptolemy III (246 BC). The temple’s walls depict scenes from the myth of Horus and Seth, which were likely performed annually as a religious drama.
At 09:30, continue your journey as you sail towards Kom Ombo. Enjoy a delicious lunch on board during the cruise. Upon arrival at Kom Ombo at 15:30, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, located 40 km north of Aswan. The temple, dedicated to Sobek and Horus, dates back to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods (332 BC – 395 AD). It is famous for its unique design, with two symmetrical entrances and sanctuaries for each god.
At 17:30, continue sailing towards Aswan, with dinner served on board during the sail. You will arrive in Aswan at 21:00 and spend the night on board the cruise.
8) Day 8: Aswan Highlights
Start your day with a breakfast on board your Nile cruise at 08:00, followed by an exciting exploration of Aswan’s top attractions. Your visit will include the iconic Temple of Philae, which was built to honor the goddess Isis. This temple is the last of its kind to be constructed in the traditional Egyptian style, with construction beginning around 690 BC. It was one of the final places where the goddess was worshipped.
Next, enjoy a Felucca boat tour around Elephantine Island, one of Aswan’s most scenic spots. You will also visit the High Dam, a remarkable feat of engineering that spans the border between Egypt and Sudan. Completed in 1968, the dam helps control the Nile’s floodwaters and created Lake Nasser.
Another stop will be the Unfinished Obelisk, located in the northern quarries of Aswan. This massive obelisk, nearly 42 meters long, provides an incredible insight into the stoneworking techniques of ancient Egypt. If completed, it would have weighed 1168 tonnes, making it the heaviest single stone monument ever crafted in ancient Egypt.
At 12:00, enjoy a delicious lunch on board the cruise, followed by a relaxing afternoon. The day concludes with dinner on board, and you will spend another comfortable night aboard the cruise.
9) Day 9: Abu Simbel Excursion
Start your day early with a breakfast box and disembark from your cruise. You will then embark on a scenic drive to visit the famous Abu Simbel temples, located about 3 hours away. These two impressive temples were built by Ramses II and dedicated to the Pharaoh himself, as well as to Ra-Harakhty, Amun Ra, and Ptah. The Great Temple features four colossal statues of Ramses II at its entrance. The second temple, dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor, is equally magnificent.
Both temples were originally carved into the mountainside on the west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244 BC. To preserve them from rising waters due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam, the temples were meticulously dismantled and moved to higher ground, making this one of UNESCO’s greatest preservation achievements.
After visiting Abu Simbel, you will return to Cairo by flight and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay in the city.
10) Day 10: Departure from Cairo Airport
On the final day of your remarkable Egypt tour, enjoy a hearty breakfast at your Cairo hotel.
