Egypt 8-Day Tour: Cairo, Nile Cruise & White Desert

After breakfast, travel to the Giza Plateau for a guided visit to the Majestic Pyramids at Giza. You see the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure from the plateau, with time to take in their scale and hear how the royal complex was planned. The route continues to the Great Sphinx, where the human-headed guardian looks across the former temple area. Access inside a pyramid is separate from the main visit and may involve narrow passages and uneven surfaces, so ask our team if you would like practical guidance before choosing it.

Later, visit the comprehensive Egyptian Museum in central Cairo. Its galleries contain royal statues, funerary objects, jewellery and everyday items from several periods of Egyptian history. Expect walking indoors and time on your feet; the order of the museum visit can change according to opening arrangements and crowd levels.

Leave Cairo early for the Bahariya desert oasis, a long overland journey through the changing landscape west of the capital. On arrival, pause for a meal and a short break before continuing into the desert by 4x4. The oasis gives way to open gravel plains, dark volcanic rock and pale chalk formations.

By late afternoon, reach the pristine white desert landscape, where wind-shaped limestone forms rise from the plain. Your desert team sets up the camp while you walk among the formations, photograph the changing light and watch the sunset from a suitable viewpoint. The ground is uneven, and temperatures can drop after dark, so closed shoes and warm layers are useful.

Spend the night at the camp with a simple dinner and time to look at the stars when conditions permit. Facilities are basic rather than hotel-style, and the exact camp location depends on local desert regulations and access conditions.

After breakfast at camp, leave the desert and return by 4x4 to the Bahariya area before beginning the road journey back to Cairo. The drive takes several hours, with a stop arranged along the way for refreshments and a chance to stretch your legs.

Once back in the capital, transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Aswan, subject to the day's flight schedule. On arrival, our team meets you and takes you to the Nile cruise boat. Allow time for the transfer, check-in and settling into your cabin; the change from desert camp to river accommodation is part of the tour's varied pace.

After boarding, you can rest on deck or take in the first views of Aswan along the river. Meals and the evening arrangements follow the cruise programme, while our team confirms the next morning's early visit to Abu Simbel.

Set out early from Aswan for Abu Simbel, travelling by road through the desert to the temples built by Ramesses II. At the site, enter the larger temple with its four seated royal figures, then visit the smaller temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari and Hathor. Your guide explains the temple reliefs, religious scenes and the relocation project that protected the monuments from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

After the visit, return to Aswan and board the cruise boat, or rejoin it according to the sailing schedule. The road journey is substantial, so bring water, sun protection and a light layer for the air-conditioned vehicle. The early start also means that breakfast arrangements may be adjusted around the excursion.

Spend the evening on board as the boat prepares to sail or continues along the Nile. This is a quieter part of the journey, with time to rest, eat and watch the riverbank villages pass from the deck.

Begin with a boat ride across the water to the Philae temple complex, built on Agilkia Island after the original island was affected by the construction of the Aswan dams. The approach by boat gives you a clear view of the temple walls and gateways. Inside, see courtyards, columns and reliefs linked to Isis, Osiris and Horus, while your guide sets the site within the religious history of ancient Aswan.

Later, visit authentic Nubian settlements along the river. You may see brightly painted homes, narrow lanes and local community life shaped by the Nile and the surrounding desert. The visit is arranged respectfully, with time to meet residents, learn about Nubian traditions and enjoy a drink or simple hospitality where included.

Return to the boat for lunch and sailing. Keep a hat, water and sun protection with you for the island visit, and wear shoes that are comfortable on steps, paths and the boat landing.

Arrive in Luxor and begin on the west bank, where the Valley of the Kings tombs are cut into the desert hills. Enter the tombs included in the day's programme and look closely at the painted corridors, funerary texts and scenes intended to guide the pharaoh into the afterlife. Tomb access can vary, and the interior paths may be steep, narrow or warm.

Cross to the east bank for Karnak temple ruins, a vast complex of pylons, courts, columns and sanctuaries built over many centuries. The Great Hypostyle Hall is a major stop, with towering columns covered in carved inscriptions. Your guide helps separate the different building phases rather than treating the complex as a single monument.

End at Luxor temple monuments, where the avenue, courtyards and columned spaces take on a different character later in the day. After the visits, transfer to your Luxor accommodation or onward departure arrangements, depending on the confirmed programme.
