5) Day 5-The Majestic Valley of the Kings
Today, we explore one of Egypt's most iconic archaeological wonders: the Valley of the Kings.
Valley of the Kings:
Once known as the "Great Place of Truth," the Valley of the Kings is a majestic burial ground of the Pharaohs, who were laid to rest in monumental stone sarcophagi, awaiting immortality. Nestled in a remote desert and dominated by a pyramid-shaped mountain peak, the valley is a fascinating site of ancient Egyptian history and culture.
This legendary site served as the burial place for many Pharaohs, including the famous Tutankhamun. The tombs, adorned with stunning wall paintings and intricate reliefs, tell the stories of the kings and their journey to the afterlife.
The Colossi of Memnon:
Next, visit the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous statues that rise 18 meters from the plain. These monumental remains of what was once the largest temple complex on the West Bank were built by Amenhotep III and are now a striking symbol of ancient grandeur.
Temple of Queen Hatshepsut:
Your day continues with a visit to the Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, an architectural masterpiece that rises in a series of terraces from the desert plain. Perfectly integrated into the steep limestone cliffs of the Theban Mountain, the temple seems as if nature itself had created this extraordinary monument.
After these unforgettable visits, return to the cruise ship to continue your journey along the Nile.
6) Day 6-Temple of Horus and Temple of Kom Ombo
After breakfast on board the cruise, we begin our day with a visit to the Temple of Edfu at 07:00. Located in Upper Egypt, this well-preserved temple is dedicated to the hawk-god Horus and is one of the best examples of Ptolemaic architecture. The temple was built on the site of an earlier structure, with construction dating back to the reign of Ptolemy III (246 BC). The walls of the temple are covered with detailed depictions, including the myth of the battle between Horus and Seth, which was probably performed as a religious drama during annual festivals.
At 09:30, we set sail for Kom Ombo, a scenic journey along the Nile River.
Lunch will be served on board at 12:30 during the sail.
We will arrive in Kom Ombo at 15:30 and visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, located 40 km north of Aswan. This unique double temple is dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and Horus, the falcon god. The temple dates primarily to the Ptolemaic and Roman periods (332 BC – 395 AD) and offers an excellent example of ancient Egyptian religious architecture.
Afterward, we will continue sailing towards Aswan, with dinner served on board during the journey. We will arrive in Aswan at 21:00, where you will overnight on board the cruise.
7) Day 7-Optional Trip to Abu Simbel and Aswan
Start your day with an early departure and a breakfast box for the optional trip to Abu Simbel. The two remarkable temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari were carved into the mountainside on the west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244 BC. The Great Temple, dedicated to Ramses II, Ra-Harakhty, Amun Ra, and Ptah, features four colossal statues of the pharaoh. The Second Temple, dedicated to Queen Nefertari and the goddess Hathor, is equally impressive. Both temples were dismantled stone by stone and relocated to higher ground to save them from flooding due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. The preservation of these temples is one of UNESCO's greatest achievements.
After the visit, return to the cruise for lunch on board.
In the afternoon, we continue our exploration of Aswan, starting with the Temple of Philae, built to honor the goddess Isis. This was the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style, with construction beginning around 690 BC. We then enjoy a Felucca boat ride around Elephantine Island, offering beautiful views of the Nile.
Next, we visit the Aswan High Dam, a massive rock-fill dam at the border between Egypt and Sudan. Completed in 1968 and officially inaugurated in 1971, it controls the Nile’s flooding, provides irrigation water, and generates hydroelectric power. The dam has created Lake Nasser, one of the largest artificial lakes in the world.
Finally, we visit the Unfinished Obelisk in the Northern Quarries, offering valuable insights into how the ancient Egyptians carved their monumental structures. This nearly 42-meter-long obelisk, weighing 1168 tons, would have been the heaviest stone ever worked by the ancient Egyptians.
After a full day of exploration, return to the cruise for dinner and overnight stay on board.
8) Day 8-International Departure
After breakfast on board, it’s time to check out and transfer to the airport for your international departure. Our representative will assist you with the check-out process and ensure a smooth transfer to Aswan International Airport or Luxor International Airport, depending on your flight schedule.
