However, the construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902 led to frequent flooding, threatening these historical treasures. In a remarkable feat of engineering and preservation, the UNESCO Nubia Campaign undertook the monumental task of disassembling the temple complex. Each stone was meticulously moved to Agilkia Island, a nearby location safe from the floodwaters. This massive undertaking was completed just in time before the completion of the Aswan High Dam in 1970.
