Edfu Temple, dedicated to Horus the falcon god, is one of Egypt's best-preserved temples built in the Ptolemaic era. Kom Ombo is a unique double temple dedicated simultaneously to Sobek (crocodile god) and Haroeris (elder Horus), with an attached crocodile museum displaying mummified crocodiles.
The drive from Makadi Bay to Edfu takes about 4 hours. Kom Ombo is a further 45 minutes south of Edfu along the Nile. The full round trip including site visits makes for a long but very rewarding day, departing early and returning by late evening.
Horse carriages are available at Edfu for the short ride from the dock area to the temple entrance and are a popular and charming way to arrive. This is typically included or optional at a small additional cost. The horse carriage ride takes only about 5–10 minutes.
Edfu and Kom Ombo are ideally located between Luxor (north) and Aswan (south) and are commonly visited en route between the two cities. Adding them as a standalone day trip from Makadi allows you to fully appreciate both temples without rushing. Alternatively, they can be combined with an Aswan extension.
