After breakfast, travel to the Giza Plateau for your first major sightseeing day. The Giza Pyramids rise from the desert edge outside modern Cairo, and your guide explains how the complex was planned, built and used for royal burials. You see the pyramids from the main viewpoints before continuing to the Sphinx, whose carved limestone body and human-headed face face the ancient burial ground.
The visit involves walking over uneven ground, loose sand and sun-exposed paths, so comfortable shoes, water and a hat are useful.
