The site represents a blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman cultures, offering a fascinating glimpse into Alexandria’s multicultural past.

3. Citadel of Sultan Qaitbay
Continue to the Citadel of Sultan Qaitbay, built in the 15th century by the Mamluk Sultan Qaitbay to protect Alexandria from Crusader attacks. This impressive fort is constructed using stones from the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The lighthouse was damaged by an earthquake in 1303 AD, and the citadel now stands as a symbol of Alexandria's Islamic heritage.

4) Day 4: Abu Simbel, Aswan & Luxor
Early Morning Visit to Abu Simbel from Aswan
Start your day with an early morning drive from Aswan to Abu Simbel, home to the spectacular temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari. These incredible temples were carved into the mountainside on the west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244 BC.
Great Temple of Ramses II: This massive temple is dedicated to Ramses II, along with the gods Ra-Harakhty, Amun Ra, and Ptah. It is guarded by four monumental statues of Ramses II, each over 20 meters tall.
Temple of Queen Nefertari: The smaller temple honors Queen Nefertari, Ramses II's beloved wife, and Goddess Hathor. Both temples were carefully relocated in the 1960s, stone by stone, to a higher location to prevent damage from the rising waters of Lake Nasser. The preservation of Abu Simbel is considered one of UNESCO’s greatest achievements.
Aswan Sightseeing
After exploring Abu Simbel, return to Aswan and continue your tour:
Temple of Philae: Built to honor the goddess Isis, this stunning temple is the last to be built in the classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and it was one of the final strongholds where the goddess was worshipped.
The High Dam: Visit the Aswan High Dam, a major feat of engineering that controls the flooding of the Nile and forms Lake Nasser. The dam was completed in 1968 and inaugurated in 1971. It plays a crucial role in Egypt’s water supply and energy production.
The Unfinished Obelisk: In the Northern Quarries of Aswan, discover the Unfinished Obelisk, a massive granite structure that was abandoned during construction. At nearly 42 meters long and weighing 1168 tonnes, it would have been the largest obelisk ever created. The site offers valuable insights into ancient Egyptian stone-working techniques.
Drive to Luxor
After exploring Aswan, embark on a scenic drive to Luxor, where you’ll spend the night.
