Then proceed toward Saladin's Fortress, erected by Salah al-Din in 1183 AD upon the Moqattam ridge for protection against Crusader invasions. Celebrated for its pristine atmosphere and expansive vistas across Cairo, this now-preserved complex features religious buildings and cultural institutions, particularly the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha Constructed by distinguished Ottoman engineer Yousif Boushnaq, specially summoned from Istanbul to design this architectural masterpiece, the mosque's luminous alabaster construction provides striking contrast against Cairo's sandstone landscape. 3) Day 3 - Memphis, Sakkara & Dahshur Pyramids
Your guide from Marsa Alam will collect you from your lodging for an enriching Cairo day journey exploring Memphis, Sakkara, and the Dahshur Pyramids. You will begin with the Step Pyramid at Sakkara, celebrated as humanity's most ancient monumental stone edifice. This architectural wonder was commissioned during the 3rd Dynasty for Pharaoh Djoser. Next, enjoy your midday repast at a local dining establishment. Subsequently transfer to ancient Memphis, founded by Pharaoh Narmer, which functioned as Egypt's governmental seat throughout the Old Kingdom and maintained its significance as a center of authority and intellectual achievement for millennia, establishing itself as Egypt's primary metropolis. View the iconic Colossus of Ramesses II and the Marble Sphinx located at Memphis. Next travel to Dahshur, where certain later pyramids constructed within this locale have been fully obliterated by temporal erosion and environmental weathering, while several others, including the Black Pyramid (12th Dynasty, 1929-1885 BC), sustained grave structural compromise. Nevertheless, Dahshur contains two exceptionally preserved examples of Egypt's primordial pyramidal architecture. Both were erected under Pharaoh Sneferu's administration (2613-2589 BC), establishing the 4th Dynasty, the Bent Pyramid and the Red Pyramid at Dahshur constitute monumental proof of the constructive innovations that enabled development of the Great Pyramid alongside its contemporaries positioned at Giza. Afterwards transfer back to your resting place.
