Arrive in Cairo, where our team meets you at the airport and arranges your transfer to the hotel. After time to settle in, begin the tour at the Giza Plateau. Later, visit the Cairo Museum to see a broad collection of ancient Egyptian statues, jewellery, coffins and everyday objects. The museum visit gives context to the monuments you have seen earlier. The day includes road transfers between the airport, hotel and sights, with walking on paved and uneven ground, so comfortable shoes and water are useful.
Leave Cairo after breakfast for Alexandria, travelling north by road along the Nile Delta. The journey takes several hours, depending on traffic, and our guide uses the drive to explain how the modern city developed beside the Mediterranean. On arrival, explore Alexandria's historic centre and waterfront, where Greek, Roman, Arab and modern Egyptian influences meet.
Visit the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, an underground burial complex cut into the rock, then continue to Pompey's Pillar and the nearby archaeological area. Transfer to Cairo airport for your domestic flight to Luxor.
