Luxor Day Trips Departing from El Gouna
Luxor, Aswan & Abu Simbel 3-Day Tour from El Gouna
The Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel three-day tour from El Gouna brings several major ancient sites in southern Egypt into one well-planned private journey. You travel by private vehicle with a knowledgeable guide, leaving the Red Sea coast for the temples, tombs and Nile Valley scenery.
In Luxor, you begin on the west bank. The Valley of the Kings has narrow tomb passages cut into the desert hills, with painted scenes that are still remarkably detailed. Nearby, Queen Hatshepsut Temple rises in broad terraces beneath the cliffs. Your guide explains the story of Egypt's female pharaoh and the temple's purpose before you continue to the Colossi of Memnon, two large seated statues beside the road.
On Luxor's east bank, Karnak Temple shows a different scale. Several pharaohs built and extended its courtyards, pylons and columns, leaving a long record of Egyptian history in stone. Walking through the Great Hypostyle Hall is a highlight, particularly when your guide points out the surviving inscriptions and explains how the temple was used.
The journey south continues towards Aswan, with visits to Edfu and Kom Ombo included where planned. Edfu is home to a well-preserved temple dedicated to Horus, while Kom Ombo is unusual because its design honours two deities. These stops break up the road journey and give you a closer look at temple architecture beyond Luxor's better-known sites.
In Aswan, you visit Philae Temple on an island reached by boat. The temple complex was moved to higher ground during construction of the Aswan High Dam, and its reliefs and courtyards make more sense with the story of that relocation. The surrounding water and granite landscape give this visit a different feel from the desert tombs and large land-based complexes seen earlier.
The final major visit is to the Abu Simbel temples, known for the four great statues carved into the rock face of the main temple. Inside, you see painted chambers and reliefs linked to Ramesses II, while the smaller temple honours Queen Nefertari. Reaching Abu Simbel involves a long road journey and may require an early start, but arranging the transfer as part of a private tour keeps the logistics together.
This tour suits travellers who want to see major Upper Egypt sights without arranging several separate transfers. The distances are substantial, and the programme includes walking over uneven ground, steps and exposed areas, so it suits travellers comfortable with active sightseeing better than anyone looking for a slow, resort-style break. Our team coordinates the pickup, vehicle, guide and route details so you can focus on the monuments. Keep water, sun protection and comfortable shoes accessible during each visit.

Pickup for this private tour takes place from your accommodation in El Gouna, followed by road transfers in a private vehicle with a guide accompanying the sightseeing programme.
The exact pickup arrangements depend on your accommodation and confirmed itinerary. We provide the meeting details before the tour, and the route connects El Gouna with Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel without requiring you to arrange separate local transport.
The tour can suit families with older children, but its long transfers, early starts and uneven temple surfaces may be demanding for young children or travellers with limited mobility.
Visits to the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut temple, Karnak temple and the Abu Simbel temples involve walking outdoors, steps or uneven ground. Tell our team about mobility needs before booking so we can explain the route and discuss practical arrangements.

Your Itinerary
We pick you up from your hotel in El Gouna in a private vehicle and begin the drive to Luxor. The journey takes several hours, so we plan comfort stops along the way and keep the day’s route clear with your guide. On arrival, you visit The Valley of the Kings, where the tombs are cut into the desert hills on Luxor’s west bank. Your guide explains the burial customs and the wall paintings before you enter the tombs included in your visit.
Continue to the Queen Hatshepsut temple, built in terraces against the cliffs, then stop at the Colossi of Memnon for photographs. After a break for lunch, cross to the east bank and explore Karnak temple. The avenue, courtyards and great columned hall show how the complex grew under successive pharaohs. When the Luxor visits are complete, we continue south by road towards Aswan, with a meal or rest stop arranged during the transfer.
On the southbound route, we stop at Edfu to see its well-preserved Ptolemaic temple, dedicated to Horus. The broad entrance, relief-covered walls and inner sanctuary give you a clear sense of how worshippers moved through the building. Your guide points out the temple’s falcon imagery and explains the stories shown in the carved scenes. Continue by private vehicle towards Kom Ombo, allowing time for a visit to the temple overlooking the Nile.
At Kom Ombo, the unusual double design reflects worship of two deities, with separate areas and reliefs to examine. After the visit, stop for a typical meal and a short rest before continuing to Aswan. In the city, visit Phiala temple, reached by a short boat crossing to Agilkia Island. The island setting gives the final stop a different feel from the desert temples, and your guide helps you read the Roman and ancient Egyptian details before the transfer to your overnight accommodation.
Travel early from Aswan towards the southern shore of Lake Nasser for the Abu Simbel temples. The approach reveals the four seated figures of Ramesses II before you enter the larger temple, where the halls and sanctuary carry scenes of the king and the gods. The smaller temple nearby honours Queen Nefertari and has its own row of statues and decorated chambers. Your guide explains the temples’ relocation during the creation of Lake Nasser and gives you time to walk between the two buildings at a comfortable pace.
After sightseeing, take a break for refreshments or a meal before beginning the return journey by private vehicle. The drive back towards El Gouna is long, so we include practical rest stops and help with luggage at each transfer point. The tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel in El Gouna after the road journey. Exact timings depend on traffic, site access and the pace you choose at each temple.
