Description

This 3-day Luxor and Aswan tour from Hurghada gives you a practical way to see Upper Egypt’s temples and tombs without arranging separate transfers. We travel by private vehicle with a knowledgeable guide, starting in Luxor and continuing south through Edfu and Kom Ombo to Aswan. The route includes the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, the temples of Abu Simbel and several important sites along the Nile.

In Luxor, the Valley of the Kings offers a close look at the burial place of New Kingdom rulers. Your guide explains how the tombs were cut into the desert cliffs and how their painted scenes reflect ancient Egyptian beliefs about the afterlife. The Tomb of the young Pharaoh Tutankhamon is among those that may be visited, subject to ticket arrangements and site regulations on the day. The interior passages can be narrow, with steps and uneven surfaces.

Across the river, you visit Queen Hatshepsut’s temple at Deir el-Bahari. Its broad terraces rise against the limestone cliffs, and the layout is easy to follow as you walk towards the main sanctuary. The Colossi of Memnon are usually seen nearby, before or after the west-bank visits. These two seated statues once guarded the entrance to a much larger temple complex and make a useful short stop between the main sights.

Karnak Temple gives the Luxor visit a different sense of scale. The complex has long avenues, courtyards, pylons and the Great Hypostyle Hall, where tall columns still carry carved and painted details. We keep a manageable pace and leave time for your guide to point out details that are easy to miss, including inscriptions, statue remains and the changing design of the temple as later pharaohs added to it.

Further south, Edfu is home to one of Egypt’s best-preserved temple buildings. The Temple of Horus has a large pylon, detailed reliefs and a clear processional layout. Kom Ombo feels different again: its temple was dedicated to Sobek and Horus, and its position beside the Nile links the visit closely to the river landscape. Seeing Edfu and Kom Ombo on the overland route makes the journey between Luxor and Aswan more worthwhile than treating the two cities as separate stops.

In Aswan, Phiala temple, more commonly written as Philae Temple, sits on an island reached by boat. The temple complex was moved to higher ground during the Nile flooding project, and your guide can explain the relocation as you explore the courtyards, columns and sanctuaries. The boat crossing depends on local operating conditions, so our team coordinates the visit as part of the day’s arrangements.

The journey to the Abu Simbel temples starts early in Aswan, but it allows you to see two of southern Egypt’s most important monuments in one organised trip. The larger temple was built for Ramesses II and the smaller one for Queen Nefertari. Their façades, inner halls and reliefs are easier to understand with a guide, especially when you learn how the complex was moved to protect it from the rising waters of Lake Nasser.

This tour suits travellers who want a concentrated introduction to Upper Egypt and are comfortable with long road journeys, early departures and warm outdoor sites. It is less suitable for anyone seeking a slow-paced city break or for travellers who find repeated stairs, uneven ground and extended time in a vehicle difficult. A private vehicle gives your group more privacy and makes it easier to manage stops, luggage and rest breaks. We arrange the route, guide and transfers so you can focus on the monuments; accommodation and meal arrangements follow the option selected for your booking.

Your Itinerary

Our team collects you in Hurghada for the private drive to Luxor. After reaching the city, the tour begins on the west bank, where your licensed Egyptologist guides you through the Valley of the Kings. You will see the decorated corridors and burial chambers cut into the desert cliffs, including the Tomb of The young Pharaoh Tutankhamon, subject to site access on the day.

Continue to Queen Hatshepsut temple, built in terraces beneath the cliffs. Your guide explains the queen’s reign and the reliefs that still show parts of her story. Nearby, pause at The Colossi of Memnon before crossing to Luxor’s east bank.

Later, walk through Karnak temple, allowing time for the Great Hypostyle Hall, courtyards and monumental gateways. The day follows a steady sightseeing pace with transfers between the west and east banks. After the visit, check in to your accommodation in Luxor and rest before the next morning’s journey towards Aswan.

After breakfast, leave Luxor by private vehicle for Aswan. The road follows the Nile through towns and farmland, with stops that break up the journey and give you time to explore two important temples. Your guide keeps the schedule practical and explains how each site fitted into ancient religious life.

The first stop is Edfu, home to the well-preserved temple dedicated to Horus. Walk between its massive walls, relief-covered pylons and inner halls while learning how later Egyptians and archaeologists uncovered details of the complex. Continue south to Kom Ombo, a temple with an unusual double design dedicated to two deities. Its riverside setting and carved reliefs make this a very different visit from Edfu.

On arrival in Aswan, take the short boat ride to Phiala temple on its island setting. The approach by water gives you a clear view of the temple before you explore its courtyards and columns. After the visit, return by boat, transfer to your accommodation and spend the night in Aswan.

Leave Aswan early by private vehicle for Abu Simbel. The journey across the desert takes several hours each way, so this is a full sightseeing day; your team confirms the practical departure arrangements in advance. Bring water, sun protection and comfortable shoes for the site visit.

At the southern end of the journey, explore the Abu Simbel temples, cut into the rock beside Lake Nasser. The larger temple has four seated statues at its entrance and halls covered with scenes of Ramesses II. The neighbouring temple, built for Queen Nefertari, has its own richly carved facade and interior reliefs. Your guide explains the temples’ construction, religious purpose and relocation during the Lake Nasser project.

Return to Aswan after the visit for the tour’s departure arrangements. Depending on your onward plans, our team can coordinate your drop-off in Aswan or discuss a separate transfer. Allow extra time after returning from Abu Simbel, as road conditions and site procedures can affect the final arrival time.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 3-day trip to Luxor and Aswan from Hurghada includes private vehicle transport, pickup and drop-off in Hurghada, and a tour guide for visits to the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut temple, The Colossi of Memnon, Karnak temple, Phiala temple, Edfu, Kom Ombo and the Abu Simbel temples.

Entrance tickets, meals and accommodation should be checked in the booking details, as inclusions can depend on the selected tour arrangement. Your guide will organise the sightseeing in a practical order and explain the history of each site.

This 3-day tour usually follows a full sightseeing route through Luxor and Aswan, with Luxor visits arranged around the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut temple, The Colossi of Memnon and Karnak temple before continuing south to Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan.

The Abu Simbel temples are visited during the Aswan part of the trip, while the Tomb of the young Pharaoh Tutankhamon can be visited in the Valley of the Kings if it is open and selected separately. Expect early starts, walking on uneven ground and several hours of travel between sites.

Pickup for this private Luxor and Aswan tour takes place from your accommodation in Hurghada, followed by road transfers in a private vehicle between the Red Sea coast, Luxor, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Aswan.

We confirm the pickup arrangements after booking because the exact location affects the meeting point and travel plan. Please provide your hotel or accommodation details and keep your phone available on the day of pickup.

The tour can suit families with older children, but it is a demanding three-day trip with long road transfers, early starts, heat and walking across archaeological sites. Travellers with limited mobility should discuss their needs with our team before booking so we can explain access at each stop.

The Valley of the Kings, Karnak temple, Edfu and the Abu Simbel temples include uneven surfaces, steps or exposed areas. A private vehicle allows more flexibility for rest stops, although it cannot remove every access challenge at ancient sites.

Wear light, breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes and clothing that covers your shoulders and knees when visiting temples and other religious sites. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, drinking water and any medication you need for the three-day route.

A small day bag is useful for personal items, while a camera or phone can record the temples and landscapes. Conditions can change between the early morning, open archaeological sites and the vehicle, so a light extra layer is practical.

You can request the tour by providing your preferred date, Hurghada accommodation details and the number of travellers; our team will then confirm the arrangements and explain the current booking conditions before payment.

Cancellation and amendment terms depend on the date of travel and the booking arrangement, so check the specific policy shown with your reservation. Contact us as soon as possible if your plans change, especially where transport or accommodation has already been arranged.
