Description

This 2-day Cairo and Luxor tour from Hurghada covers the ancient sites most travellers come to Egypt to see, arranged across two full days. In Cairo, you visit the Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, then see royal treasures and everyday objects at Cairo Museum. After an overnight stay and a domestic flight to Luxor, our guide takes you to the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut Temple, the Colossi of Memnon and Karnak Temple.

The tour starts with a road transfer from Hurghada to Cairo in an air-conditioned vehicle. It is a long travel day, but it lets you visit Egypt’s capital without arranging a separate stay there. At Giza, your guide explains how the pyramids were built, how the royal burial complex developed and what remains around the monuments. You have time to walk across the plateau, take photographs and view the Sphinx from the recognised viewing area. Comfortable shoes are useful: the ground is uneven in places, and the visit includes walking outdoors.

At Cairo Museum, the focus moves to objects found in royal tombs, temples and settlements. Your licensed Egyptologist guide puts the displays in context and points out pieces that are easy to overlook when visiting alone. You see statues, coffins, jewellery and other artefacts linked to ancient Egyptian life. Depending on the day’s traffic and museum arrangements, there may also be time for Cairo’s old bazaar, where narrow lanes are lined with shops selling spices, fabrics, souvenirs and crafts. You can browse there or simply walk through and take in the atmosphere.

After sightseeing in Cairo, we arrange your transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor. Flying cuts down the overland travel between the two cities, leaving more time for Luxor’s monuments. The exact order of transport and visits may change with flight schedules, site opening arrangements and local traffic. Our team coordinates these details, so you do not have to manage airport transfers or find your way between archaeological sites spread across the city.

In Luxor, the Valley of the Kings leads into the desert hills on the west bank of the Nile. The tombs run through decorated corridors and chambers, with painted scenes showing religious symbols, gods and rulers. Ticket arrangements determine which tombs are open on the day, and some special tombs may need an additional ticket. Queen Hatshepsut Temple comes next, set in terraces against the cliffs and reached by a broad approach. Your guide explains Hatshepsut’s rule and the reliefs depicting trade, offerings and royal ceremonies.

The Colossi of Memnon are a short stop on the west bank. These large seated statues once guarded a temple entrance and show the scale of royal construction. You then cross to the east bank for Karnak Temple. Its Great Hypostyle Hall, processional avenues and successive building layers show how the site grew over many centuries. Give yourself time to look at the columns, inscriptions and open courtyards; Karnak is a large complex, so a steady pace works better than a rushed visit.

  • The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx with an Egyptologist guide
  • Cairo Museum and time in the old bazaar area, subject to the day’s schedule
  • Flight arrangements between Cairo and Luxor, with coordinated airport transfers
  • The Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatshepsut Temple and the Colossi of Memnon
  • Karnak Temple on Luxor’s east bank

This tour suits travellers who want Cairo and Luxor’s main sights during a short holiday and are comfortable with early starts, road travel, walking and changing cities. It is less suitable for anyone looking for a slow-paced break or who finds long sightseeing days difficult. We keep the route organised, tell you where you need to be next and include practical pauses for food, water and photographs. Please share any mobility concerns when booking so our team can advise on the walking required at each site. Bring your passport for the domestic flight and keep it accessible during the airport transfer.

Your Itinerary

We collect you from your accommodation in Hurghada for the drive to Cairo. The journey takes several hours, with a stop arranged along the route when needed. On arrival, our guide takes you to the Giza Plateau, where you see The Pyramids of Giza in their proper setting on the edge of the desert. You have time to walk around the main viewpoints, hear how the royal tombs were built, and take photographs. The visit continues to The Sphinx, where the lion’s body and human head are carved from the natural bedrock.

After lunch, continue into central Cairo for the Cairo Museum. Its galleries contain statues, jewellery, funerary objects and other remains from several periods of Egyptian history. The pace is guided but leaves room to look at the exhibits that interest you most. Later, take a short walk through the Old Bazaar, where small shops sell spices, souvenirs and handmade goods. After the Cairo visits, we arrange your transfer to the airport for the flight to Luxor and onward transfer to your accommodation. The exact flight time is subject to the day’s operating schedule.

After breakfast, begin on Luxor’s West Bank, crossing the Nile by road to the Valley of the Kings. Your guide explains how this dry valley became the burial place of New Kingdom pharaohs, then you enter the tombs included in the day’s schedule. Tomb access can vary, and the interiors are reached on foot over uneven ground, so comfortable shoes and water are useful.

Continue to Queen Hatshepsut temple, built in terraces against the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari. The broad approach, columned levels and surviving reliefs show how the temple was designed for ceremonies and royal worship. On the way back toward the river, stop at the colossi of Memnon, two large seated statues that once guarded the entrance to Amenhotep III’s temple.

After a break for lunch, visit Karnak temple on Luxor’s East Bank. Walk through its monumental gateways and the Great Hypostyle Hall, then see the columns, courts and sacred lake area with your guide. We arrange the return transfer to Hurghada after the sightseeing, with the journey taking several hours depending on road conditions and traffic.

Hands down, one of the best tours I've ever taken! The flight from Cairo to Luxor was seamless and the sights at both places are unforgettable. The Valley of the Kings is a step back into history. If you're thinking about this tour, do it!

The 2-day tour was a fantastic experience. Seeing the Pyramids, Sphinx, and flying to Luxor was well worth it. The tour was well organized, although I would have liked slightly more time at the Egyptian Museum. Overall, a great adventure!

Consiglio vivamente!
