Description

Cairo and Abu Simbel 2-day tour from Sahel Hasheesh brings ancient capitals, royal tombs and Nubian monuments into one carefully planned trip. You travel from the Red Sea coast to Cairo, then fly to Aswan, spending the night at Basma Hotel before visiting Abu Simbel and Aswan’s main sights. It suits travellers who want to see Egypt’s essential monuments without taking a longer Nile cruise.

In Cairo, our team takes you to the Pyramids of Giza, where the Great Pyramid and its neighbours rise above the modern city. Your guide explains how the complexes were planned, built and used as royal burial grounds. You also see The Sphinx, with its lion’s body and human head facing the pyramid field. Time at the plateau is usually active without feeling rushed, with walking over uneven ground and chances to take photographs from several viewpoints.

The Egyptian Museum gives you a different view of the morning. Its galleries hold statues, jewellery, coffins and objects from several periods of ancient Egyptian history. A licensed Egyptologist helps you focus on the most important pieces rather than trying to cover every room. The museum follows Giza well: first you see the scale of the monuments, then you look more closely at the objects and beliefs connected with them.

After Cairo, we arrange your transfer to the airport for the flight to Aswan. Flying keeps this two-day itinerary practical, although domestic flight schedules and airport procedures can change the exact order and amount of free time. Our team coordinates the transfers and guides, so you do not have to arrange separate transport between the airport, sights and accommodation. You stay overnight at Basma Hotel in Aswan, with a comfortable base before the early visit to Abu Simbel.

  • See the Pyramids of Giza and The Sphinx with a guide
  • Visit the Egyptian Museum in Cairo
  • Fly between Cairo and Aswan as arranged for the tour
  • Visit the Abu Simbel Temples and the High Dam
  • Explore Philae Temple and key Aswan viewpoints

The Abu Simbel Temples are the furthest point on the route and the reason for the early start from Aswan. Ramses II built the larger temple, with four seated figures carved into its rock face. Inside, decorated halls lead towards the sanctuary, while the smaller temple honours Queen Nefertari. The site is open and exposed, so comfortable shoes, sun protection and water are useful. The drive takes time, but the temples’ scale and setting make this an important part of the trip.

Back in Aswan, you visit the High Dam, a major modern structure that changed control of the Nile and created Lake Nasser. You then reach Philae Temple by boat across the water when conditions and local arrangements allow. The temple complex was moved to Agilkia Island to protect it from the rising lake. Its courtyards, columns and reliefs make more sense with a guide explaining the relocation and later Roman additions.

This tour suits travellers with limited time, couples, families with older children and anyone comfortable with early starts, flights and a full sightseeing schedule. It is less suitable if you prefer slow mornings, long stays at one site or minimal walking. We arrange the main transport, accommodation and sightseeing support as one organised trip, keeping the route clear and manageable. Bring your passport for domestic flights and allow time for airport check-in and security procedures; your final pickup and flight details are confirmed before travel.

Your Itinerary

Our team arranges your transfer from Sahel Hasheesh to the airport for the flight to Cairo. After meeting your guide, begin on the Giza Plateau with the Pyramids of Giza, where you can walk around the pyramid grounds and hear how the royal tombs were built. Continue to the nearby The Sphinx, carved with a lion’s body and a human head, before stopping for time to take photographs and ask questions about the site.

After lunch, visit the Egyptian Museum in central Cairo. Your guide helps you focus on the main galleries, including royal statues, sarcophagi and objects from ancient Egyptian daily life. The visit has a steady walking pace, with time to look closely rather than rush through every room.

Later, transfer to Cairo airport for your flight to Aswan. On arrival, our representative takes you to Basma Hotel for the night. The evening is free to rest after a full sightseeing day, with the next morning starting early for Abu Simbel.

Leave Aswan early for the road transfer to the Abu Simbel Temples. The journey takes several hours each way, so the morning is planned around an early departure. At the site, explore the larger temple built for Ramesses II and the adjoining temple dedicated to Queen Nefertari. Your guide explains the façade, interior halls and the relocation of the temples during the creation of Lake Nasser.

Return to Aswan and continue with the city’s main sights. At the High Dam, see the structure that changed water management and agriculture along the Nile. Then travel by boat to Agilkia Island for Philae Temple, a complex dedicated mainly to Isis. The island setting and carved gateways make this a quieter visit after the long drive.

After the tour, transfer to Aswan airport for your flight back towards the Red Sea. On arrival, our team arranges your onward transfer to Sahel Hasheesh. Flight schedules determine the exact order and available time at each stop.

Shoulders and knees should be covered when visiting religious or culturally significant places, including Philae Temple. Keep your passport and flight documents accessible, and pack a small overnight bag for the stay at Basma Hotel rather than carrying all your luggage between visits.

You can request the tour by providing your preferred date, accommodation details in Sahel Hasheesh and traveller information; booking is confirmed only after our team checks the flight and accommodation arrangements.

Cancellation and amendment terms depend on the booking conditions for the date, domestic flights and hotel reservation. We will explain those terms before confirmation, so review them carefully if your plans may change.
