The Hamata Islands form a group of roughly 3 uninhabited virgin islands inside Hamata National Park, some 130 km south of Marsa Alam. Pristine coral reefs and crystal-clear waters teeming with marine life surround the islands.
Given the distance, hotel pick-up in Marsa Alam happens at 05:00 AM. From there you're driven to Hamata Marina (130 km south) and set off by boat to explore all three islands over the day, snorkeling at unspoiled reef sites.
The reefs at Hamata teem with colorful corals, parrotfish, surgeonfish, moray eels, and sea turtles, while nearby mangroves shelter juvenile fish. Lucky snorkelers occasionally spot sharks and rays out in the deeper waters.
It certainly is, since the activity is snorkeling rather than scuba diving. Many stretches of reef are shallow, keeping them accessible even to those with little snorkeling experience, and life jackets are on hand for extra reassurance.
