  • 1) Day tour to Dahshur Pyramids and Meidoum Pyramid from Cairo

    You will be picked up from your hotel by Marsa Alam tour guide to enjoy a Day tour to Dahshur Pyramids and Meidoum Pyramid from Cairo. You will start your tour with Dahshur Dahshur: Two of the later pyramids constructed here have been completely destroyed by time, and the elements and several others, such as the Black Pyramid (12th Dynasty, 1929-1885 BC), are badly damaged, but Dahshur also boasts two of Egypt’s best-preserved early pyramids. Both built during the reign of King Sneferu (2613-2589 BC), the founder of the 4th Dynasty, the Bent Pyramid, and the Red Pyramid at Dahshur are massive evidence of the architectural development that lead to the construction of the Great Pyramid and it companions at Giza. Then drive to Medium Pyramids Medium Pyramids: The pyramid at Meidum is thought to be just the second pyramid built after Djoser's and may have been originally built for Huni, the last pharaoh of the Third Dynasty, and continued by Senfru This started as a stepped pyramid, but as it neared completion the steps were packed with stone and the whole structure was cased in finest limestone. In its final form, the pyramid stood approximately 311ft (95m) high.
    Unfortunately, the pyramid was unsound. Its heavy outer layers eventually slid downwards, leaving a square, three-stepped core standing in a mountain of sand and rubble and the ruins of the pyramid complex. We do not know when this disaster occurred, although as there are New Kingdom tombs incorporated in the rubble we know that the pyramid had at least partially collapsed by the time of the New Kingdom (which started around 1550 BC). The Meidum Pyramid is located 100 km south of Cairo and is one of Egypt's earliest pyramid attempts, believed to have been started by Huni and completed by Sneferu. It partially collapsed in antiquity, leaving an iconic tower-like structure rising from a vast rubble field. It is rarely visited, making it an exclusive experience.

Yes, the Red Pyramid is open for interior visits and is included in the tour. You can descend a long sloping passage into the internal chambers, which are uniquely well-preserved. This is one of the few pyramids in Egypt where you can experience the full interior without an extra fee. It is a highlight of the Dahshur visit.

Dahshur is approximately 40 km south of Cairo (about 1 hour's drive). Meidum is an additional 60 km further south (about 1.5 hours from Dahshur). Combining both in a day tour makes for a full day of driving and exploration, but the sites are uncrowded and the journey itself passes through the Nile Valley countryside.

    Absolutely blown away by this tour. The pyramids at Dahshur are less crowded than Giza and offer a much more intimate experience. Climbing into the Red Pyramid was a big highlight. Would greatly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Egypt!
