Description

A 3-day Luxor tour from Sahl Hasheesh lets you visit the major monuments of ancient Thebes without packing everything into one long day. The road leads inland from the Red Sea coast, while our team arranges the transport, accommodation and sightseeing. You can then give your attention to the temples, tombs and stories behind Luxor’s ancient sites.

The first sightseeing programme focuses on the west bank. In the Valley of the Kings, your licensed Egyptologist guide explains how workers cut royal tombs into the desert cliffs and helps you choose among the tombs open that day. You then visit Queen Hatshepsut Temple, where broad terraces rise below the limestone cliffs at Deir el-Bahari. The nearby Colossi of Memnon make a brief, worthwhile stop: two giant seated statues mark the entrance to the ruined temple of Amenhotep III.

The west bank is home to more than royal tombs. Madinet Habu Temple has some of Luxor’s clearest reliefs, showing battles, ceremonies and offerings. At The Ramesseum Temple, the remains of Ramesses II’s memorial temple give you an idea of the original complex’s scale. Fallen statues and carved walls help you understand the site beyond its surviving columns.

You also visit Deir El Madina, the village where many artisans who decorated the royal tombs lived. Its smaller tombs contain carefully painted scenes of farming, daily life and religious practice. The Valley of the Queens offers another perspective, with royal women and children buried in decorated chambers cut into the western hills. The visits allow time to listen, take photographs and walk between the main areas instead of hurrying from one stop to the next.

  • See Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple on the east bank of the Nile.
  • Explore the Valley of the Kings and Queen Hatshepsut Temple with a guide.
  • Visit the Colossi of Memnon, Madinet Habu Temple and The Ramesseum Temple.
  • Walk through Deir El Madina and the Valley of the Queens.

On the east bank, Karnak Temple shows how large a religious complex could become over centuries. The Great Hypostyle Hall is the centrepiece, with rows of massive columns covered in inscriptions. Luxor Temple has a different feel: it sits within the modern city and follows a more compact processional layout. Its avenue, courtyards and statues become easier to understand when your guide explains how the temple connected with Karnak during ancient festivals.

Two nights in Luxor make the trip easier than a same-day excursion from Sahl Hasheesh. You do not have to repeat the full return journey after visiting the west bank, and the schedule leaves time for meals, rest and a slower look at the sites. Transport is arranged in an air-conditioned vehicle, with road transfers planned around the sightseeing route and stops made where practical.

This trip suits travellers who want a broad introduction to Luxor and prefer the reassurance of an organised route. Families, couples and first-time visitors can see the main monuments with a guide to explain them rather than exploring every site alone. Expect uneven ground, steps, exposed desert paths and warm conditions. Travellers with mobility concerns should tell our team before booking so we can discuss the route and support available.

Before departure, our team confirms the arrangements, including the pickup point in Sahl Hasheesh, the transfer to Luxor, accommodation details and the sites included in your programme. Bring comfortable walking shoes, and keep water, sun protection and any daily medication with you during the visits.

Your Itinerary

Your three-day trip to Luxor from Sahl Hasheesh begins with a road transfer through the Eastern Desert. The journey takes several hours, so we recommend travelling with water, sun protection and a light snack. After arriving in Luxor, our team helps you settle in before your first sightseeing visit. Your guide then takes you to Luxor Temple, where you can walk along the avenue of sphinxes, see the monumental entrance and look closely at the columns, statues and later additions within the temple grounds.

Continue to Karnak Temple, a large complex that needs time to appreciate at an easy pace. Walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall, see the remaining obelisks and learn how successive rulers expanded the religious centre of ancient Thebes. The order may change slightly according to arrival conditions and opening arrangements. After sightseeing, we transfer you to your accommodation in Luxor for the evening and a well-earned rest.

After breakfast, cross to Luxor’s West Bank for a full day among the monuments built for royal burials and worship. Begin at the Valley of the Kings, where your guide explains the tomb layouts and the beliefs shown in their painted chambers. Entry normally includes a selection of open tombs, while access to individual tombs can vary. Continue to the Queen Hatshepsut Temple, built in terraces against the limestone cliffs, then pause at the Colossi of Memnon for photographs and an explanation of the seated royal figures.

The route continues to Madinet Habu Temple, known for its broad courtyards and detailed reliefs, followed by the Ramesseum Temple, the memorial temple of Ramesses II. After lunch, visit Deir El Madina, the former village of the craftsmen who decorated the royal tombs, and finish at the Valley of the Queens. This is a long sightseeing day with walking on uneven ground, so comfortable shoes, a hat and water will help. We return to Luxor in the late afternoon.

Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation and keep the morning unhurried after the previous day’s West Bank visits. You can organise your luggage, check that you have all personal belongings and speak with our team about the return transfer. If your accommodation or travel arrangements require a different departure sequence, we confirm the details with you in advance.

We then collect you for the drive back from Luxor to Sahl Hasheesh. The route passes through the desert landscape between the Nile Valley and the Red Sea coast, with rest stops arranged when appropriate during the journey. Allow several hours for the transfer and keep essential items, medication and travel documents with you rather than in the main luggage. Your three-day trip ends with drop-off in Sahl Hasheesh.
