Wadi El Gemal (Valley of the Camels) is a stunning national park in the Eastern Desert south of Port Ghalib, encompassing desert wadis, mangroves, coral reefs, and rich wildlife. It is one of Egypt's most important protected areas and offers unique eco-tourism experiences.
Wadi El Gemal offers trekking through desert wadis, birdwatching (the area has rare and migratory species), mangrove kayaking, snorkelling at the offshore reef, and camel or 4x4 jeep excursions into the desert. Combination day tours are available.
The park is home to gazelles, Egyptian foxes, monitor lizards, and a remarkable variety of birds including ospreys, herons, and flamingos. Offshore, the reef supports sea turtles, dugongs, dolphins, and rays. Mangrove channels shelter juvenile fish and crabs.
A small national park entry fee is required, which is included in all organised tour prices. Independent visitors should pay at the park entrance. Guides are mandatory for trekking within the park boundaries and are provided as part of the organised tour.
