1) Petra by Cruise from Sharm El Sheikh | Uncover Jordan's Hidden Treasure
Your Petra excursion from Sharm El Sheikh gets underway before sunrise with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel in a modern, air-conditioned vehicle. Enjoy a scenic drive through the Sinai Desert as the first rays of sunlight light up the rugged mountain ranges and golden sands. The journey from Sharm El Sheikh to Taba lasts around three and a half hours, with a short rest stop along the way to stretch your legs, grab refreshments, and soak in the stunning desert landscape.
On arrival at Taba port, our team will help you handle the necessary border formalities before you board the ferry from Taba to Aqaba- your gateway to Jordan. The ferry crossing over the Red Sea is a relaxing experience of its own, delivering sweeping views of turquoise waters and the distant mountain ranges of both Egypt and Jordan. After roughly 45 minutes at sea, you'll reach the lively coastal city of Aqaba, where your Jordanian guide will greet you and stay with you for the rest of the journey to Petra.
From Aqaba, head north aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned coach through the dramatic landscapes of Wadi Rum, often called the "Valley of the Moon" for its surreal red-sand scenery and towering rock formations. During the drive, your guide will share fascinating insights about Jordan's history, Bedouin culture, and the ancient trade routes that once linked Arabia to the Mediterranean. The road to Petra takes roughly two hours, and as you draw closer, anticipation builds for one of the most breathtaking archaeological sites on the planet.
Once you arrive at the Petra Visitor Center, your exploration of the legendary "Lost City" begins. For an authentic touch, you may opt to start with a short horseback ride leading to the entrance of the Siq, the narrow gorge serving as Petra's gateway. Entering the Siq on foot, you'll find yourself surrounded by towering cliffs rising more than 80 meters high, their colors shifting from rose-red to deep gold depending on the light. Intricate carvings, niches, and remnants of ancient aqueducts line the passage, offering a glimpse into the craftsmanship of the Nabataeans, the ancient civilization that carved this city out of solid rock more than two thousand years ago.
As the gorge widens, the first glimpse of the Treasury (Al-Khazneh) leaves every visitor speechless. Carved with astonishing detail into the sandstone cliff, the Treasury stands as Petra's most iconic monument and a masterpiece of ancient architecture. After a break for photos and to learn about its history and mysterious purpose, your guided tour continues deeper into the archaeological park. You'll pass through the Street of Facades, a row of monumental tombs cut into the mountain, before reaching the Roman Theatre, which once seated thousands of spectators during the Nabataean and later Roman periods.
Continue exploring toward the Royal Tombs, each uniquely carved and decorated, and walk along the Colonnaded Street, the main avenue of ancient Petra lined with the remains of temples, markets, and grand columns. At the far end stands Qasr al-Bint, one of Petra's most important temples, dedicated to the main Nabataean deities. Throughout your visit, your guide will share captivating stories about the Nabataeans, their advanced water systems, and how Petra grew into a thriving trade hub linking Arabia, Egypt, and the Levant.
After a few hours of exploring, you'll enjoy a delicious traditional Jordanian lunch at a local restaurant near the site. The meal offers a chance to relax and savor authentic Middle Eastern dishes while surrounded by views of the desert mountains and the timeless aura of Petra.
In the afternoon, you'll set off on your return journey from Petra back to Aqaba. The drive once again passes through the captivating landscapes of southern Jordan, giving you plenty of time to reflect on the incredible history and beauty you've just experienced. Once you reach Aqaba, you'll board the ferry back to Taba, where our Egyptian representative will help you through re-entry procedures and ensure a smooth transition on your way back to Sharm El Sheikh.
From Taba, sit back and relax during the comfortable evening drive across the Sinai Peninsula. As you arrive back at your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, you'll carry with you lasting memories of one of the most extraordinary excursions in the Middle East- a day that takes you across borders, through time, and into the heart of Jordan's rose-red wonder, Petra.
