Mount Moses (Jebel Musa), standing at 2,285 metres, is where the Bible says Moses received the Ten Commandments. It is a sacred site for Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Sunrise hikes to the summit offer breathtaking panoramic views over the Sinai Desert.
The hike to the summit of Mount Sinai involves ascending approximately 3,750 steps or taking the camel path (longer but less steep). The night climb begins around midnight for a sunrise view at the top. The ascent takes 2–3 hours and the descent about 1.5 hours.
St. Catherine's Monastery, built in the 6th century, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited Christian monasteries in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It houses a remarkable library, Byzantine mosaics, and is said to contain the Burning Bush described in the Book of Exodus.
The night hike to the summit of Mount Sinai is moderately demanding due to altitude and the number of steps. Reasonably fit adults can manage it. Camels are available to ride partway up for those who prefer. Warm clothing is essential as temperatures at the summit can be very cold at night.
