Later the City was fortified by Sultan Selim, Until the later century .it was the starting Point for pilgrims traveling to Mecca, Today It is a Narrow, Streets are lined with Colorful bazaar with a distinct Bedouin flavor, Shopping in El Quseir is infinitely more interesting with a great deal of choice and competition. El Quseir has vast markets for souvenirs and traditional clothing, papyrus, pottery, alabaster statues, leather goods (watches, bags, clothing etc). Most of the souvenir shops are located in Sharia Gumhuriya which runs by the Ottoman castle and through the center of town.
