8-Day Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan

After sailing through the Esna area, the ship continues towards Edfu. Today’s shore visit takes you to Edfu Temple, one of Egypt’s best-preserved ancient temples. From the river, a short local transfer brings you to the site, where the monumental entrance, reliefs and enclosed courts give a clear sense of its original scale. Your guide describes the temple’s connection with Horus and points out details that are easy to miss, including the carved scenes on the walls and the ceremonial layout.

Return to the ship after the visit for breakfast or the next scheduled meal, then continue sailing south. The rest of the day follows the relaxed rhythm of a Nile cruise: time on deck, a break in your cabin and meals prepared on board. As the ship approaches Aswan, the river becomes more open and the scenery takes on a warmer, rockier character. After breakfast, begin Aswan Sightseeing with a visit to the High Dam. Your guide explains how the dam changed water management, agriculture and settlement along the Nile, while the viewpoint gives you a broad look across the surrounding landscape.

Continue to the Unfinished Obelisk, where the huge granite monument remains in its quarry. Cracks in the stone show why the work stopped, and the site gives you a practical look at how ancient stonemasons shaped large blocks. Allow time for walking across uneven quarry surfaces, then return to the ship for lunch and a quieter afternoon. The evening is free to enjoy the deck or rest before the next excursion.

Today is set aside for the journey to Abu Simbel, usually beginning before the heat of the day becomes strong. Travel by road with our team to the temples, taking water and sun protection for the visit. On arrival, you first see the four seated figures cut into the rock face of the Great Temple. Inside, the halls and reliefs lead towards the sanctuary, while the nearby temple has its own smaller scale and detailed decoration.

Your guide explains the temples’ construction under Ramesses II and the later relocation project that protected them when Lake Nasser rose. After time to explore and take photographs, return by road to Aswan and rejoin the cruise ship. The excursion is long because of the distance involved, but the visit is paced with time to walk through the main spaces. The day ends with dinner and rest on board.

This day gives you space to enjoy the ship and the river after several guided visits. Start with breakfast on board, then use the morning to sit on the upper deck, take photographs or speak with our guide about the monuments you have seen.
